There’s buzz in Wales over a proposed law that could change how holiday lets operate. The Welsh Government is intending to bring in a new licensing bill for visitor accommodation, hot on the heels of a recently approved tourism tax and a registry of accommodation providers. But not everyone is thrilled with how swiftly this bill is moving through the system.

Andrew RT Davies, head of an economy committee, is sounding the alarm, saying the rushed timeline could squeeze out the chance for quality input and scrutiny. With only a three-week window for public consultation, many argue that it doesn’t allow enough time for businesses to have their voices heard.

Davies emphasised that substantial changes like these could significantly impact Welsh jobs and the economy, deserving a slower and more thorough vetting process. He suggests delaying the bill until after next May’s elections, criticising the government’s approach as planning legislation in haste rather than responding to urgent issues.

The proposed timeline would see the law introduced by late October and signed off by mid-March. However, Davies fears that such a tight schedule won’t allow his committee to deliver the in-depth scrutiny typically expected.

Would this new law bring needed change to the tourism industry? Or is there too much at stake to rush it? Let us know what you think! 🏖️🏡💬 #WalesTourism #WelshGovernment #LegislationDebate
