The debate over Welsh independence is heating up as we approach the next Senedd election! With Plaid Cymru leading the polls, all eyes are on their pro-independence stance. But where do the other parties stand? 🤔

Labour isn’t keen on independence, advocating for a stronger Wales within the UK and pledging to bolster devolution. Eluned Morgan highlights the importance of a “strong Wales in a strong United Kingdom.”

Plaid Cymru, on the other hand, is not planning a referendum this term but is committed to preparing for independence. They believe in a future where the choice belongs to the people of Wales.
The Green Party also supports independence, viewing it as essential for a fairer, greener future. Their leader, Anthony Slaughter, sees it as a chance for Wales to set its own course.
The Welsh Liberal Democrats are firmly against independence, focusing instead on addressing everyday issues that impact citizens. They argue that Wales and the UK are stronger together.
Reform UK and the Conservatives also oppose independence. Reform UK warns against the divisiveness it could cause, while the Conservatives dismiss it as a costly “fantasy” that could disrupt the economy and public services.
