A sombre day for Welsh rugby as we mourn the sudden passing of Ryan Jones, affectionately known as ‘Bonesy’, at just 32. A beloved figure in the community, Ryan left a profound mark as a player at Hollybush RFC, a dedicated referee for Bargoed RFC’s youth matches, and a committed coach for Pengam’s football club. Beyond the field, he was a loving father to three young boys.

Hollybush RFC shared their heartbreak, expressing the void left by Ryan’s untimely departure. “Bonesy was more than a teammate. He was family, and our club will never be the same without him,” they said. This tragedy follows closely on the heels of another heartbreaking loss for the club, with teammate Lee David Southall passing away nearly two years prior.

Ryan’s impact was felt far and wide. Chairman Tim Morris remembers him as “a small guy who made a big impact”, both on and off the pitch. Always full of life, Ryan’s infectious spirit and passion made him a cherished member of the rugby family.
Pengam Boys and Girls Club described Ryan as someone with an “infectious laugh and a heart bigger than most”, highlighting his knack for bringing people together. Bargoed RFC echoed these sentiments, celebrating his larger-than-life personality that filled every gathering with laughter.
As we remember Ryan, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this incredibly difficult time. His legacy of passion and love for the game—and more importantly, for the people—will remain in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Bonesy. Your memory will continue to inspire us. ❤️🏉
