Ian was set to return to London Heathrow on March 1st. Then, conflict erupted and everything changed. Flights got cancelled, leaving Ian scrambling for solutions with dwindling diabetes medication and funds.

The situation got tense when a drone struck close to his hotel and another hit Dubai International Airport just as he was gearing up for his rescheduled flight. With airport activities temporarily halted, Ian found himself taking refuge in the airport’s basement, his flight on the brink of cancellation yet again.

The global transport hub slowly resumed operations and, after a seven-hour delay, Ian finally boarded a plane bound for home. Yet, the challenges didn’t end there. As a vegetarian for 40 years, the last thing Ian expected was to find chicken in his meal during his flight! Despite the unprecedented adventure, Ian is grateful to be back in familiar territory.

From sleeping arrangements going haywire in a packed hotel, to jets soaring overhead, and flights barely making it out, Ian’s Dubai saga was anything but ordinary. While he’s glad to have experienced the tennis tournament, his ordeal has put a damper on returning to Dubai anytime soon.

Ian’s story is a reminder of how quickly plans can change and just how resilient people can be in the face of unexpected challenges. Despite everything, Ian has kept his humour intact, ending his travel tale with a laugh instead of a frown. Welcome home, Ian!
