Attention dog owners in Bridgend! New dog control rules might be coming your way, and they’re causing quite a stir. Bridgend County Borough Council plans to roll out a consultation regarding a new dog control order aimed at keeping our public spaces clean and safe. If approved, owners will be required to carry waste bags for dog mess, ensuring it’s either binned or taken home. Plus, if an authorised officer asks, dogs would need to be put on a lead. These possible rules could shape the way our furry friends enjoy public spaces for the next three years.

Local sports clubs have voiced concerns about dogs on playgrounds and pitches, but the current proposal stops short of banning them from these areas. However, feedback from sports clubs and the public will play a crucial role in shaping future rules. Councillor Jane Gebbie highlighted her rugby club’s eagerness to see changes, while Cllr John Spanswick hopes for better pet owner behaviour—even if rules aren’t in place.

The council unanimously agreed to review these changes, alongside air quality reports identifying pollution hotspots in the county. So, if you’ve got thoughts on these potential doggy do’s and don’ts, make sure your voice is heard in the upcoming consultation! 🐾
Stay tuned for updates and make sure to share your opinions when the consultation launches. Let’s keep Bridgend enjoyable for everyone—humans and dogs alike! 🐶✨
