π Heads up, everyone! ππ°

Changes to parking charges in Blackwood are causing a stir! π¨ Councillor Nigel Dix is raising concerns about the impact of scrapping the 40p one-hour parking option last November. He’s pointing out a drop in footfall and ticket sales, with 9,278 fewer sold since the modifications. This isn’t just a small dip – itβs affecting the town centre businesses still battling post-Covid recovery challenges.

The switch from a 40p one-hour ticket to a two-hour ticket at Β£1.10 is hitting traders where it hurts. Cllr Dix believes it’s discouraging people from visiting, making life harder for shops already facing high inflation, tax hikes, and energy bills. π

Although fewer tickets were snapped up, parking machines still raked in Β£30,000 more than last year. Thatβs a head-scratcher, hinting at the increased costs being shuffled onto locals! π·οΈ
Dix is calling for a rethink, urging the council to bring back the one-hour rate to boost footfall and give local businesses a fighting chance. π£
What do you think? Are these changes helping or hurting our local shops? Partnerships must meet ongoing economic challenges, not add to them. Stay tuned as we keep tabs on this one! πποΈ
