π Drama on the field! Despite Maesteg RFC clinching the Division Four West Central title with an impressive 38-7 win over Bridgend Sports, the long-awaited trophy lift didn’t happen. The Welsh Rugby Union’s policy pulled the brakes, leaving the team and fans longing for that triumphant moment.

The game was thrilling, with Maesteg storming ahead and securing their spot in Division Three next season. Shockingly, even after ousting second place contenders Bonymaen Athletic by nine points, and despite this being their last game of the season, they left the pitch trophy-less. Why, you ask? The WRU won’t hand over the silverware until it’s “100% guaranteed” before kickoffβeven if that’s your final game!
Darren Farmer, Maesteg’s secretary, was ready to personally deliver the trophy to Bonymaen if they somehow snatched the title next weekend, but WRU’s policy stood firm. π

A heartfelt apology went out to players, coaches, and all the loyal fans who made the journey. But here’s a silver lining: Maesteg plans to celebrate not one but possibly two triumphs! They aim to bag another piece of silverware in the District Trophy final against Tonna RFC and later party with the league trophy back in Maesteg, fully suited up. π

To all the supporters: thanks for turning up on Saturday! The club promises a big celebration soon, proving that persistence and passion are part of what makes rugby, and Maesteg, truly special. Stay tuned for details on the much-deserved trophy presentation. π
Let’s keep the cheers and chants ready for the upcoming victories, marking a fantastic season for Maesteg RFC! ππͺ
