Air quality alert! 🚨 Nitrogen dioxide levels on Park Street, Bridgend, are still exceeding safe limits, despite overall improvements. 🌿 A council report shows air quality is improving, yet two spots recorded levels of 43.6µg/m3 and 44.6µg/m3 – above the legal threshold.

Since it was designated an Air Quality Management Area in 2019, efforts have been made to clean up the air in this busy town-centre street. It’s not all bad news, as one monitoring site reported its first dip below the 40µg/m3 mark!

Cllr Hywel Williams, cabinet member for finance and performance, highlighted the ongoing efforts. 🚗💨 While progress is being made, nitrogen dioxide levels aren’t dropping as expected at all sites. Fortunately, projections suggest they’ll fall within acceptable limits by 2026.
As part of continued improvement strategies, there’s a proposal to make St Leonard’s Road off Park Street a no-entry zone to cut down on traffic. This could be the extra boost needed to meet air quality goals.
Since the pre-pandemic days, there’s been a noticeable trend of decreasing nitrogen dioxide concentrations, but we must push forward to achieve further reductions. Let’s keep aiming for healthier air for everyone in Bridgend!
