🐦 Tragic Loss at Fendrod Lake: A Swan Mystery in Swansea 🐦

Sad news from Swansea as around 12 swans have been found dead at Fendrod Lake in Llansamlet. While a sign at the lake suggests the presence of avian flu, it’s unclear who posted it. The Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) hasn’t confirmed any cases of bird flu there, but the threat is on the rise across the UK.

David Wood, a local walker, reported seeing multiple swan deaths over the weekend, describing it as “very rare” given the lake’s history. He’s been a regular visitor since 2012 and has seen only a few such incidents in the past. Swansea Council later collected the deceased birds but denied putting up the sign.
This beloved spot hosts around 30 swans, along with geese and other birds. With the UK on high alert due to recent avian flu cases, the public is reminded to avoid touching or moving any dead or sick birds. Instead, report them to Defra online or via 0345 9335577.
Stay safe and keep an eye out while enjoying Swansea’s beautiful nature spots. 💛
