Beloved radio and TV legend, Paul Gambaccini, has shared that he’s been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. At 77, the BBC Radio 2 and Greatest Hits Radio presenter is taking the diagnosis in his stride, quoting Freddie Mercury, “you can’t turn back the clock, you can’t turn back the tide.” Despite the challenges ahead, Paul is determined to keep doing what he loves most: broadcasting.
Gambaccini continues to delight fans every Sunday with The Paul Gambaccini Collection on BBC Radio 2 and other shows on Greatest Hits Radio. He expresses gratitude for the kindness and support he’s received so far and pledges to stay as open as possible about his journey.
Helen Thomas from Radio 2 and Richard Angell from the Terrence Higgins Trust have both voiced their support, recognising Paul’s significant contributions not just to broadcasting but also to raising awareness for causes close to his heart, like HIV advocacy.
