A brand new shared-use path for cyclists, walkers, and horse riders has been approved! This long-awaited route will connect Mayals, Swansea with Murton and Bishopston, Gower, running parallel to the B4436. Safety first, as users will be safely separated from the busy road by a stock-proof fence. π€οΈ

π Thanks to locals like Patrick Tribe and the Gower Access Path campaign group, public support has been overwhelming with 2,500 signatures backing the plan. Cyclists and walkers alike will enjoy this route thatβs more than just a pathβit’s a community win! π«
Welsh Government planning inspector Richard Duggan saw firsthand how perilous the road is for pedestrians. This new path promises safety and accessibility where there was none, supported by schools, cycling, and running groups alike.
πΏ To care for the natural beauty of Clyne Common, wildflower planting and new bird and bat boxes are planned to enhance biodiversity. While there will be some changes to the landscape, these steps ensure a net gain for nature. π¦π¦
With planning approval secured, the next step is securing funding from the Welsh Government to kickstart construction later this year. Swansea’s environment and infrastructure rep, Cllr Andrew Stevens, and Bishopston councillor, Lyndon Jones, are working tirelessly to bring this dream to life.
π΄ββοΈ Local cycle group Wheelrights also hailed the approval, emphasizing the publicβs enthusiasm for safer and more accessible routes. It’s truly a community effort that’s finally paying off!
