Exciting new bar and restaurant development in Barry has hit a snag! The much-anticipated Morio Lounge at Nell’s Point, Barry Island, has faced delays due to unexpected power connection issues. Built on the site of a former public toilet block, this venue was set for a grand opening in mid-May, but now eyes a new target date of June 3rd.

James Morse, the developer behind Nextcolour Ltd, expressed frustration over the slowdown caused by the need for a power link-up from the National Grid. Despite having paid £58,000 for the service, additional unexpected costs and delays have emerged, leading to a standoff. “It seems very strange,” said Morse, reflecting on the complexities faced during the process.

With a significant £1.2 million investment and backing from the council, hopes are high for the Morio Lounge, planned to occupy a stunning position overlooking Whitmore Bay. Promising around 30 new jobs, this venture should become a vibrant addition to the area once opened.
Councillor Lis Burnett stressed the importance of resolving the issue swiftly to avoid disrupting the sunny summer season. Meanwhile, Kate Eastwood, managing director of Loungers, echoed the community’s eagerness to see the doors open: “It really will be worth the wait,” she assured.
Nextcolour Ltd, renowned for projects like Mumbles’ Oyster Wharf, has high expectations for this transformation. The former 1923-built toilet block has already undergone significant improvements to become a Grade II-listed gem. Rest assured, this renovation aims to bring a touch of modern flair while respecting the historical charm of the site.
Stay tuned to see when this exciting venue finally opens its doors, promising a delightful experience with good food, drinks, and stunning seaside views!
