A shocking betrayal of trust! A police officer, Patrick Banks, 42, has been jailed for three years for sexually assaulting a homeless single mum he was supposed to protect. The victim, who found herself in an incredibly vulnerable state, says this betrayal has left her unable to see the beauty and goodness in the world.

The verdict was delivered at Sheffield Crown Court, where the judge condemned Banks for grotesquely abusing his position. Assigned to investigate a reported sexual assault, Banks instead preyed on the woman, manipulating her dire circumstances.
Court details revealed the lengths to which Banks went to exploit the victim—using Google Translate to send inappropriate messages, visiting her off-duty while pretending to be on police business, and even buying presents for her child. Shockingly, he viewed her social media over 100 times.

But the horror doesn’t stop there. Banks also made inappropriate advances towards another woman who had reported a sexual assault. This calculated misconduct, especially from someone in the adult safeguarding unit, is appalling.
Judge Richardson highlighted the particularly aggravating nature of Banks’s actions, emphasising how they went beyond inappropriate behaviour to embody a severe breach of professional duty.
Banks resigned in September 2025 and admitted to misconduct and sexual assault. This case serves as a grim reminder of the abuses that can occur when positions of power are misused. Let’s stand together and support the vulnerable. 💔 #JusticeServed #ProtectTheVulnerable
