Criticism Mounts as Council Ignores Safety Concerns of Overheated Theatre, Puts Actors and Audiences at Risk

🔥 Ammanford Miners’ Theatre too hot to handle! 🔥

Actors and audiences alike are struggling with the sweltering conditions at the historic Grade II-listed Ammanford Miners’ Theatre. Debbie Elias, creative director of Ammanford Youth Theatre, shares that the heat has become unbearable, forcing some audience members to walk out of performances. The issue isn’t just summer-related—stage lighting and a full house only make matters worse! 🚪

The theatre, also known as Glowyr Theatre, has had to cancel shows for health and safety reasons. Despite promises from the council to address this more than 18 months ago, Ms Elias says there’s been no progress on installing air conditioning. 😓

The council acknowledges the problem and says a specialist assessment of the theatre’s ventilation is underway, looking at solutions that consider the building’s unique status and energy needs. In the meantime, additional fans and a chilled drinking water fountain have been added to alleviate the heat.

These young stars aged 4-18 deserve a comfortable space for their pantomimes and variety shows. Community theatre is vital for building confidence, friendships, and life skills among the youth. Let’s hope for a swift solution so the show can go on without a hitch! 🎭
