🎯 Remembering Darts Legend Eric Bristow 🎯
Eric Bristow, the dynamic five-time World Champion and iconic figure in the world of darts, left a legacy that will never be forgotten. Known to fans as ‘The Crafty Cockney,’ Eric was a larger-than-life character who shared his passion for the game right until his sudden passing in 2018, aged 60. While attending a Premier League darts night in Liverpool, he tragically succumbed to a heart attack.
Though renowned for his competitive spirit on the oche, away from the game, he found happiness with his partner, Rebecca Gadd, who was 21 years his junior. The pair met at a darts event in 2011 and shared a special bond over their love for the sport. Rebecca shared a heartfelt tribute after his passing, expressing the gratitude of the Bristow family for the worldwide support and condolences received. “My treble 20 man forever more,” she lovingly recalled.
Eric’s journey through darts saw him clinch numerous titles, including five World Masters titles, and play a pivotal role in the sport’s progression with the formation of the PDC in 1993. Besides his victories, he was celebrated for his charismatic personality and love for a good banter, never shying away from a drink or a smoke—often recounting he’d never shot an arrow sober.
His close friend and fellow darts player, Keith Deller, paid tribute to Bristow by acknowledging his monumental influence on the sport: “If it wasn’t for Eric, no-one would be here tonight.” The profound impact Eric had on darts is commemorated in the Grand Slam of Darts trophy, now named in his honour.
Eric’s devotion to darts was unequivocal, as Rebecca revealed his remarkable dedication to the game. Even on the day of his death, despite chest pains, he chose to attend a meet-and-greet rather than seek medical aid. “He lived for darts and died for it too,” she poignantly reflected.
Eric Bristow’s legacy lives on, immortalised not only in trophies but also in the hearts of fans around the globe who continue to celebrate his incredible contributions and cherish the memories of his thrilling performances. 🎯💔
