Over several weeks, he groomed the young girl with promises of gifts. On the fateful night, he separated her from friends, initially offering her cigarettes and a vape, which she refused. Under the guise of showing her something, he led her into an alley, exposed himself, and demanded a sex act. Despite her clear refusal and reminder of her age, he persisted until her quick thinking drew her friends’ attention, allowing her to escape.

The following day, police swiftly apprehended Himanshu at his workplace. Despite initially denying the allegations, he pleaded guilty as his trial approached. The court heard from the traumatised victim, whose sense of safety and trust is shattered, leaving her fearful of the dark and anxious in public.

Judge Mark Powell, presiding over the case, recognised the girl’s vulnerability and the critical role her friends played in her escape. Himanshu received a 330-day jail sentence and was issued a 10-year sexual harm prevention order. With his student visa nearing expiry, he faces deportation, and his barrister indicated no plans to contest this, citing personal reasons.
