Remember Shane Loughlin? He was the passenger in that tragic crash on the A48 in St Mellons, Cardiff back in March 2023, which heartbreakingly claimed three young lives. Fast forward and he’s found himself in hot water once more.
In a nail-biting day at Cardiff Crown Court, Shane heard his sentence get reduced to 17 weeks after appealing his prior conviction for driving offences. Despite the trauma of surviving such a horrifying accident, Loughlin landed in trouble again by driving while disqualified and under the influence! 😮
Court revelations showed us he hadn’t learned his lesson. Shane was stopped by the police earlier this year, caught speeding with no insurance, while over twice the legal alcohol limit!
His barrister argues that professional help is needed given the trauma he’s endured. He’s had a whopping 25 previous convictions, 12 of which were driving-related, emphasising a dire need for support and change.
The judge acknowledged Shane’s terrible past experiences but reminded him of the dangerous realities of driving offences, reducing his sentence and adding a driving ban of over four years.
