In a shocking case that has resurfaced from the 1980s, 80-year-old Hazel Templeton has been jailed for repeatedly abusing a teenage boy. Convicted of multiple indecent assaults, Templeton forced the boy into sexual acts, leaving him traumatised and suicidal.

During a trial at Newport Crown Court, the depth of the victim’s suffering became clear. Templeton used threats and manipulation, making her victim feel isolated and mistrustful of those around him. Despite his ordeal finally coming to a legal conclusion, the emotional scars are deep, with the victim still battling feelings of loss, shame, and mistrust decades later.

The court heard that Templeton, already serving a sentence for similar offences, will now face an additional three years and nine months in prison. Despite her advanced age and claims of a clean life outside these offences, the judge emphasised her lack of remorse for the lasting damage inflicted on a vulnerable young boy.
The victim’s personal statement was heart-wrenching, detailing how Templeton’s abuse was not just physical but left a deep emotional wound affecting not only him but his family too. He described the lifelong impact of her exploitation and how her abuse of power shattered his ability to trust others — a betrayal all the more profound because Templeton was a mother herself.
The judge criticised Templeton for exploiting a teenager’s innocence for her own pleasure, causing confusion and fear in a boy who deserved protection, not manipulation.
