Liam Williams Calls It a Day

Wales rugby hero Liam Williams has announced he’s stepping back from all forms of rugby, and it’s stirring quite the emotions! The former full-back took to Instagram to share the heartfelt news, bringing fans on this emotional journey with him.
After an impressive career, which kicked off with a debut in 2012, Williams earned 93 caps for Wales and scored 21 tries. Remember his electric performances in the Six Nations, not to mention a Grand Slam victory? His accolades extend beyond Welsh borders; he lifted trophies with prestigious clubs like Scarlets, Saracens, and even had a stint in Japan! A key player for the British & Irish Lions, Williams was part of the 2017 and 2021 tours.

At 34, after signing with the Newcastle Red Bulls, persistent knee troubles have played a part in his decision to call time. “I’ve been a professional for 15 years, that takes its toll,” Williams shared. Prioritising his health and looking forward to new adventures, he’s choosing to step away on his terms.

In his heartfelt video message, Williams gave a nod to everyone who’s been by his side—family, his agent, coaches, and you, the fans. While he’s hanging up his boots, he hints that this isn’t the end, just the beginning of a new chapter. “Grateful for every memory,” he captions. It’s clear that while the rugby jersey may be retired, the legacy of Liam Williams is evergreen.
We’re going to miss seeing him on the field, but here’s wishing him all the best in whatever he tackles next! 🏉💪
