Imagine stepping out of your vehicle and being greeted by a crying tabby cat, pleading for help. That’s exactly what happened to an RSPCA inspector investigating a tip-off in Llanrumney. Shakira Perry, a Cardiff resident, left her two French bulldogs and a cat alone in her home without food or water for several days, which led to this tragic discovery.

When the inspector arrived, seals were still intact on the door, confirming these poor animals had been utterly abandoned. Through a window, a tan French bulldog could be seen, clearly in distress and looking thin. Despite efforts, there was no way to provide these animals with sustenance.

It was only with the help of South Wales Police that access was gained and the situation could be addressed. Inside, the condition was dire. Ribs and hips visible, no food or water to be found, and a sense of neglect evident. Both dogs were undernourished and eagerly accepted the care they desperately needed.

Perry faced justice in Cardiff Magistrate’s Court, pleading guilty to offences under the Animal Welfare Act. She received a suspended sentence, rehab activities, and a lengthy ban from keeping animals.

The good news? These furry friends have since been looked after by the RSPCA, showing promising improvements in their health. They are finally receiving the love and care they deserve.

Let’s remember: all animals need kindness and attentive care. Don’t hesitate to report suspected neglect or abandonment. Together, we can make a difference! ❀️🐢🐱
