A shocking case of modern slavery has come to light in Tewkesbury, where Amanda Wixon, a 56-year-old mum-of-ten, has been jailed for 13 years. Wixon was found guilty of holding a vulnerable woman captive for 25 years in horrendous conditions.

This grim story began when Wixon took in the girl, her friend’s daughter, back in 1997. From then on, the victim endured a nightmare of forced labour, beatings, and psychological abuse until Wixon’s own son alerted authorities in 2021.

Heartbreakingly, the victim was subjected to vicious attacks, including being hit with a broom handle, having her teeth knocked out, and being force-fed bleach. Forced to work nonstop, she cared for Wixon’s children and maintained the household under constant threat.
Living in a tiny, mouldy room, the woman suffered in silence, malnourished and afraid to even bathe. A courageous note to the court reveals her living nightmare and the emotional scars she still battles daily. Despite the suffering, she is now with a loving family who are helping her rebuild her life.
As she bravely stated, “Nothing can give me back the 25 years I lost.” But with Wixon now behind bars, justice has finally caught up with the nightmare imprisoner.
This tragic story has sparked serious questions about how such abuse was allowed to continue for so long without detection by social services. Hopefully, lessons will be learned to prevent such horrors from happening again.
This dark chapter shows the importance of staying vigilant and ensuring everyone’s safety, even behind closed doors. Let’s hope the victim continues to find peace and healing as she moves forward. Remember, reaching out can change lives—don’t hesitate to speak up against abuse in your community.
