Former Cardiff City hero, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, has immortalised his friend and Bluebirds legend, Sol Bamba, with a heartfelt tribute—a tattoo that goes beyond football! Bamba, who sadly passed away in August 2024, touched many lives during his remarkable career, especially at Cardiff City where he shone as both a player and a beloved captain.

From breaking through at PSG to making his mark at Leicester, Leeds, Middlesbrough, and Cardiff, Sol’s journey was nothing short of remarkable. His time at Cardiff was particularly memorable; with 112 appearances and 10 goals, he was pivotal in the team’s promotion to the Premier League in 2017/18. Known for his infectious smile and undeniable talent, Bamba won the hearts of fans and teammates alike, even earning a mural in Grangetown to honour his legacy.

Neil Warnock, who managed Cardiff during Bamba’s standout years, expressed his deep sorrow at the loss, recalling the incredible memories they shared. “I can’t believe I won’t see that beaming smile again,” Warnock shared, highlighting the profound impact Bamba had on everyone around him.
But Mendez-Laing’s tribute doesn’t stop with Bamba. The former Cardiff winger also honoured the late Joe Thompson, a dear friend and fellow footballer, who bravely battled cancer. Thompson, known for his time at Rochdale and other clubs, left a lasting impression on both teammates and fans.
Current Cardiff manager, Brian Barry-Murphy, shared his own heartfelt reflections on Thompson, emphasising the importance of cherishing time and pursuing extraordinary achievements.
Mendez-Laing’s tattoos serve as a beautiful reminder of the friendships and memories that transcend the pitch. As we celebrate their legacy, let’s remember the impact both Sol Bamba and Joe Thompson had on the football world and beyond. ❤️⚽️ #CardiffCity #SolBamba #RememberingJoeThompson
