🚨 Big News in Welsh Rugby! 🚨
Big changes are on the horizon for the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU)! They’ve decided to bring in top-notch recruitment experts to find their next chairperson, aiming to have someone in the role by early summer. This follows an admission from the WRU leaders that maintaining four teams for as long as they did was a mistake—oops! 🤦♂️
During a recent, rather eventful EGM, it was revealed the WRU took a financial hit with a £6 million shortfall. This was attributed to a slump in ticket sales during the Six Nations, leading to an all-time low turnout for the game against France. 😬
With the current chairman stepping down under pressure, the WRU affirms their focus is on a new strategy—moving forward with just three teams, ensuring more talent concentration and improved standards for Welsh rugby. Change is essential, they say, to align and improve the sport nationwide. 🏉
✨ In other exciting rugby bits, Tom Shanklin gave a shoutout to Dragons’ Angus O’Brien, backing him for his first Wales call-up. O’Brien’s been on fire all season, leading his team to the semi-finals of the European Challenge Cup. Let’s see if his hard work gets him in the national squad! 🙌
🌍 Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors are taking their game to South Africa to shake off their recent Champions Cup upset. Assistant coach Roddy Grant is confident that this trip will help the team regroup and come back stronger for their United Rugby Championship campaign. 🦁
Stay tuned as these stories develop, because it’s all kicking off in the rugby world! 📰 #WelshRugby #RugbyUnion #AngusOBrien #GlasgowWarriors
