Authorities and safety experts are stressing the risks associated with swimming in natural waters. Robert Hulatt from Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service highlighted that open water can hide many perils, including cold water shock, which can affect breathing and swimming ability. He reminded everyone to enjoy water responsibly, keeping in mind that it’s often unpredictable and hazardous.

If you ever find someone struggling in the water, call 999 and ask for the fire service. Encourage the person to float on their back and try to reach them with a life ring or anything that floats. Do not enter the water yourself, as it can be extremely cold and limit your ability to swim effectively.

Let’s spread awareness and keep our loved ones safe.
