🚨 Tragic Crash Claims Life of Welsh Dad, Court Hears 🚨

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a crash that took place in Welshpool was described as a “car crash waiting to happen” by prosecutors in court today. Rhys Jenkins, 41, a beloved rugby referee and father, tragically lost his life, while his nine-year-old son was left seriously injured in the collision on the A483 in November 2024.
The accused, Abubakr Yusaf, 31, a locum optometrist, and Umar Yusaf, 35, both from Manchester, have denied causing death by dangerous driving. Prosecutors allege that the brothers were racing their BMW and Audi, with Abubakr allegedly losing control and veering into the oncoming lane, leading to the devastating crash involving Mr Jenkins’ vehicle.

Eyewitnesses recounted the scene, with one describing the driving as “unbelievably reckless and dangerous,” noting how the BMW overtook on a blind corner with no clear view ahead, ultimately leading to the fatal impact reported to be over 63mph.
The court was told how Mr Jenkins had no chance to avoid the collision, paying the “terrible price” along with his son, who was airlifted to hospital due to his injuries. Allegations also suggest the brothers fled the scene after colliding with the Toyota Yaris driven by Jenkins, leaving behind a trail of devastation.
The emotional testimony and striking accounts stress the sheer recklessness that marked the driving behaviour on that fateful day. As the trial continues, the courtroom seeks justice for Rhys Jenkins and his family, grappling with the loss of a husband and father.
