Incredibly heartbreaking news from Bolton. Amy Louise Leonard, a bright and talented 20-year-old, tragically died on October 2nd after using nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas. Just days before her passing, Amy shared a powerful message from the back of an ambulance, urging everyone to understand the real dangers of this popular party drug.

Amy Lou, as she was fondly called, posted about her struggles, revealing she had been unable to walk for three weeks due to nerve damage caused by the gas. Her heartfelt plea warned that the short-lived high from these balloons isn’t worth the severe risks – ranging from dizziness and blackouts to serious heart and lung issues.

Amy’s loving mum, Catrina, described her daughter as the life of the party, always warm and welcoming. Now, she’s determined to make sure Amy’s story serves as a warning to others. She asks us to consider safer ways to have fun without resorting to dangerous substances.

In memory of Amy, her family and friends will gather this Saturday at Bolton Rugby Club for a pink-themed balloon release. They’ll play her favourite tunes, celebrating the vibrant life Amy led.
The family has also set up a fundraising page to help cover funeral costs and to continue raising awareness about the dangers of nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide was reclassified as a Class C drug in 2023, making possession or distribution a criminal offence.
Let’s honour Amy’s memory by sharing her story and keeping her message alive. Remember, no momentary thrill is worth risking your health or life. 💔🎈
