A cosy family roast turned into a nightmare for diners at a well-loved village pub in Cwmbran. Patrons who enjoyed a Sunday carvery at The Cwrt Henllys Pub and Restaurant found themselves struck by a suspected bout of food poisoning, leaving many “severely unwell” with symptoms like violent diarrhoea and sickness.

Public Health Wales and local authorities are on the case, investigating the cause and ensuring there’s no broader risk. The pub, aware of the reports, has pinpointed a potential issue with their cooling process, although the cooking itself isn’t in question. They’re working diligently with environmental health experts to resolve the issue promptly, with assurances of no need for kitchen closure as there’s no ongoing risk.

Among the affected was a 35-year-old expectant mum, who spoke of her frightening ordeal of waking in severe pain, fearing for her pregnancy. Her young daughter and husband also experienced the same symptoms, with the latter still struggling days later. Another family, celebrating a birthday lunch, reported illness in eight out of 13 members, and even their poor dog fell sick after sneakily munching on leftovers.
As the pub awaits further test results, they’re staying transparent, urging affected patrons to get in touch to help trace the source. Posting updates on Facebook, the pub extends thanks to their understanding customers who’ve supported them through this distressing turn of events.
Here’s hoping for a swift resolution and a return to carefree Sunday lunches! Keep an eye out for more updates as the situation unfolds. 🌿🍽️
