Heartbreaking news from Bristol has left many in shock. Jo Shaw, aged 35, tragically lost her life in a devastating explosion set off by her former partner, Ryan Kelly. This occurred in the early hours of May 3rd when Kelly forced his way into a residence in Frenchay. The incident has not only claimed two lives but left a 5-year-old child without parents.

Jo’s best friend of 20 years, Sammi Lee, shared a moving tribute, celebrating Jo’s vibrant and compassionate spirit. “Jo was more than just my best friend; she was my person, my sister,” Sammi expressed. Jo was also the godmother to Sammi’s child, illustrating their deep bond; she was there for Sammi at life’s biggest moments, including supporting her during the birth of her first daughter.

Sammi reminisced about their childhood days in Fishponds and Frenchay, describing Jo as someone full of light and warmth. Jo’s selflessness was evident as she supported Sammi’s sister through chemotherapy, among many other acts of kindness. “Her energy was so bright and colourful,” Sammi added. “She was truly irreplaceable.”
Jo’s death, recorded as a homicide, is still under investigation by Avon and Somerset Police. Kelly, who took his own life in the explosion, reportedly had a history of abusive behaviour. This tragic event has left loved ones grappling for answers and struggling to make sense of the senseless.
As friends and family mourn, Sammi sums up her deep loss: “I will carry you with me always, Jo. You made my life brighter, and I will never forget you.”
Our hearts go out to all those affected by this terrible tragedy, and we hope you can find comfort in the beautiful memories shared.
