The health board is all hands on deck, teaming up with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Vale of Glamorgan Council to investigate a few local cases. Currently, the cases are confined to three separate households, and vaccines have been rolled out to those who’ve been in close contact with the infected.

For those new to it, Hepatitis A is an infection of the liver prompted by the hepatitis A virus (HAV). It can spread through the faecal-oral route (think contaminated food or surfaces). While most bounce back fully, it can be quite serious for older folks.

NHS Wales says symptoms are usually mild in kids, but older adults may face severe illness. Look out for signs like high temps, flu-like symptoms, tummy troubles, and jaundice. 🦠

💡 Remember: you’ll be infectious up to seven days after symptoms start or if jaundice appears. Good hand hygiene and a clean environment are vital to stopping the spread.

Though there’s no specific treatment, a vaccine is your best bet for prevention, especially if you’re at high risk. Stay informed, stay safe, and please, share this update to keep our community protected!
