Tragedy Strikes: A Grim Discovery in Italy💔
Heartbreak rippled through the rugby community as 16-year-old Dario Cipullo was tragically found in a canal after a night out with his team. The young rugby player, who had a bright future ahead playing for Novega Rugby Under-18s, had spent the evening enjoying a Christmas dinner with his teammates. After the meal, which ended around 1am, Dario left with a friend only to ask for a drop-off 40 metres from his home. Unfortunately, his journey ended all too tragically.
Before his phone went silent, Dario left a cryptic and almost inaudible message for a friend, causing concern among his loved ones. The distressing news of Dario’s disappearance soon sparked a search in Novara, close to Milan. This search came to a devastating conclusion when a fire service helicopter located his body, ending the collective hope that he would return safely.
Authorities are now piecing together the events of that night. Early reports suggest he might have had one too many drinks, shared by many of his mates, leading investigators to suspect he may have accidentally fallen into the waterway.
Dario’s family is deeply distressed and his mother is shattered, stating, “He never does that.” With investigators still working and a post-mortem imminent, the exact cause of this horrible accident remains to be confirmed. But what we know is that the loss of Dario has left his family and the entire rugby community reeling.
Sergio Manto from the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) praised the teen, saying he embodied the sport’s truest values—respect, passion, and commitment. Meanwhile, Dario’s club, Amatori Rugby Novara, posted a heartfelt tribute hoping that “Dario is cheering us on and watching us from up there.”
