🚨 Hepatitis A Alert in Barry! 🚨

Public Health officials have informed parents and carers in Barry about a recent outbreak of Hepatitis A, particularly in primary schools. 🏫 They’re advising everyone to step up on handwashing to help curb the spread of this viral liver infection. 🙌

While Hepatitis A can often resolve without serious complications, it’s essential to stay cautious. Experts are already on the case, working with local health and council teams to tackle a few cases identified within three households. They’ve noticed the virus might be spreading locally and are taking swift action to manage it. 🔍
As a safety measure, they’ve even offered vaccinations to those in close contact with infected individuals. 💉 Remember, there’s no need to contact your GP for a vaccine unless you’re travelling to a high-risk area.
Susan Mably, a health protection consultant, emphasised the importance of hand hygiene: “The best way to ward off Hepatitis A is thorough handwashing with soap and water, especially after the loo, handling nappies, and before meals.” 🚰
Parents, keep an eye on your little ones and remind them about washing their hands! 🙏 Even if young kids don’t show symptoms, they can still spread the virus. If you notice symptoms like fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, or yellowing skin/eyes, reach out to your GP or NHS 111 Wales pronto. 🩺
Stay safe, Barry! Let’s work together to keep our community healthy. 💙
