Heroic Father Saves Sound Asleep Kids Amid Devastating House Blaze

In an incredible act of bravery, dad Rhys Gough sprang into action after a fire erupted in his Abertillery home, saving his two sleeping children just in time. The fire, which broke out in the attic, ended up completely gutting the house, leaving the family with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

Rhys was alerted by a strange noise late at night on February 28, assuming it was just the boiler acting up. But upon opening the hatch, he saw flames leaping out. He quickly gathered his 9-year-old daughter Aria and 6-year-old son Ollie, rushing them out to safety. Rhys’s mother, who lives across the street, had already called emergency services as the fire took hold.

Despite the heroic rescue, the aftermath is heartbreaking. The house, now stripped to bare bricks, needs extensive repairs starting with the roof, which alone is estimated at £10,000. In a further blow, Rhys found out that his home insurance hadn’t auto-renewed, leaving him with a colossal financial burden.

The family has been overwhelmed by the kindness of their community. A GoFundMe page set up by friends Nichola and Jessica has already raised nearly £6,000. Kirsty, Rhys’s sister, expressed her gratitude, saying, “Every single donation, no matter how small, feels monumental to us, especially given how tough times are right now.”

Rhys and the kids are currently staying with his parents while they try to rebuild their lives. The family remains hopeful as the support continues to pour in, proving yet again that even in tough times, communities come together to lift each other up.
