A slice of history in Gorseinon is on the brink of disappearance! The beloved Gorseinon Workingmen’s Club, which for over a century was a bustling hub for miners and tinplate workers, might soon see its last days. Bought at auction for £140,000, the iconic building’s fate now hangs in the balance as plans have been submitted to Swansea Council for its demolition to make way for housing.

The club closed its doors in 2023, wrapping up its vibrant existence with lively events like a Freddie Mercury tribute act and Rugby World Cup screenings. Heartbreakingly, the club’s closing note on Facebook expressed deep gratitude to its loyal patrons and acknowledged the community’s heavy loss. Messages poured in, echoing fond memories and shared sadness.

“Very sorry to hear this,” commented one community member. Another reminisced, “Worked there for a few years and had a ball.” The echoes of laughter and camaraderie may soon fade, but the memories created within those historic walls will linger in the hearts of many.
