A touching tribute has been launched to remember the victims of the tragic Aberfan disaster, marking its 60th anniversary. In October 1966, the small Welsh village faced an unimaginable loss when 116 children and 28 adults were killed as coal waste engulfed their school.

To honour their memory, Welsh jeweller Clogau has unveiled a special commemorative badge, designed with an image of a traditional clock frozen at 9:13am—the exact moment disaster struck. This clock, recovered by rescuer Mike Flynn from the wreckage, stands as a poignant symbol of that day.

The original clock was given to the National Museum of Wales by Flynn’s son, with hopes it’ll be displayed at St Fagans to continue telling the story of Aberfan. Selling for just £10 exclusively at Clogau’s Merthyr Tydfil store, all proceeds from the badge will go to Ynysowen Community Primary School, supporting local initiatives.
Simone Roden MBE, headmistress of the school, expressed gratitude for being chosen as Clogau’s charity partner, highlighting the deep significance of Aberfan in their hearts. “We remember the children, teachers, and families whose lives were lost,” she noted, emphasising the importance of compassion, resilience, and remembrance.
Ben Roberts of Clogau praised the project, inspired by local staff after a successful previous charity campaign. With these badges, we not only honour the past but also support the community as the anniversary approaches.
Join in this heartfelt remembrance by purchasing a badge, wearing it with pride, and ensuring the story of Aberfan is never forgotten. ❤️ #Aberfan60 #NeverForgotten
