A deeply sad and unsettling story has emerged from Athens where the body of 38-year-old Elisabeth Jane Ross, a Scot, was found in a suitcase in an abandoned building. Her remains were discovered on July 18 by a homeless man in the Kypseli district, known for its derelict properties.

The suitcase had been emitting a strong odour, alerting the man to the presence of the body. Investigations reveal Elisabeth had likely been deceased for around eight days before being found. Greek media have now released the first poignant photographs of her, capturing her smiling, a stark contrast to the tragic circumstances.

Despite no signs of struggle or visible injuries, Elisabeth’s identity initially eluded authorities as she carried no ID. Standing approximately 5ft 4in with reddish hair, she was dressed in distinctive black shorts with a French university insignia. Her journey to Greece began on June 29 after departing from the US via Cyprus.

Traffic Updates
Interpol and US investigators have joined Greek authorities to uncover more about her final days. They’re appealing to anyone who might have seen or interacted with Elisabeth during her time in Athens. Residents say the abandoned building where her body was found is a known spot for rough sleepers, with one such individual currently missing.

Police Scotland is currently working alongside Greek authorities to piece together this mystery and are supporting Elisabeth’s family during this heart-breaking time. No suspects have been named yet, but investigations continue in earnest.

Our hearts go out to her loved ones and everyone affected by this tragedy. Stay tuned for updates and keep her family in your thoughts. 🙏🕊️
