🐀 “Rats have taken over my home and the smell is unbearable!” 😷
Imagine living with a rat infestation so bad you can’t sleep in your own bedroom. That’s what Sue Barratt and her son Ross are going through in their council house in Llantwit Major.
Since December, their lives have been turned upside down by rats in the walls, mould, damp, and other issues. Sue says the stench from a dead rat in the cavity was so bad, it forced her to sleep on the sofa. “It’s vile,” she describes. “I’ve not been able to use my bedroom because of the smell.”
Ross shares how this situation is affecting his mental health. “Every time I hear about the rats, it feels like I don’t want to stay here anymore. It’s sickening.”
Despite frequent calls to the council, Sue feels like nothing changes. “We just can’t live like this anymore. It’s detrimental to our physical and mental health. Where is our duty of care?”
The Vale of Glamorgan Council says they’ve been working with the family since last December. After treatment for the rodents, they’re monitoring for any return before removing loft insulation. They insist they’re keeping the family informed and aiming to resolve issues effectively.
