In a groundbreaking sustainability effort, scientists are using human urine to nurture a Welsh forest! By utilising fest-goers’ wee as fertiliser, this creative project aims to plant 4,500 native trees like beech near Bannau Brycheiniog. How does it work? Bristol’s innovative start-up, NPK Recovery, transforms urine into a powerful, odour-free fertiliser! Originally collected from festival lavatories, these nutrients turn waste into nature’s ally.

During this three-year project, supported by a Forestry Commission grant, the company will source urine from various events to keep up the supply. Last year, they even collected 1,000 litres from the London Marathon!

Partnering with the charity Stump up for Trees, co-founded by renowned author Rob Penn, they’ve already planted an impressive 500,000 trees in Wales. Their goal? A million trees, all to rejuvenate our landscapes! 🌲🌞
