🛍️ After 27 amazing years on Wellfield Road in Cardiff, Luxor is closing its doors. Owner Kaivan Forouzan is retiring but not without sharing some truths about the challenges facing local businesses. The trendy street, once bustling with shoppers, has hit a rough patch, according to Kaivan. Traffic changes, a one-way system, and new cycle lanes have made it tougher for shops to thrive, reducing footfall especially among the elderly and those needing easier access.

The once vibrant street, known for its independent shops and cafes, is now facing a different atmosphere. Kaivan notes that since the 2020 lockdown, the street’s layout has changed significantly – parking has been reduced, and while these changes aimed to encourage alfresco dining and a pedestrian-friendly vibe, they haven’t worked out well for everyone.
Kaivan also points out that increasing anti-social behaviour has put a damper on the street’s appeal, with police regularly patrolling the area. Despite these challenges, he is deeply thankful to his loyal customers who have supported Luxor for decades. It’s a bittersweet farewell, as many in the community will miss the familiar faces and connections built over almost three decades.

The council acknowledges these challenges and has expressed a commitment to improving the situation, aiming for a safer, more appealing high street while balancing the need for better air quality. They promise to continue supporting local businesses, closely monitoring any ongoing issues. As for Kaivan, he’s ready to enjoy a well-deserved retirement, leaving behind fond memories and a heartfelt thank you to the community. 👋🏼✨ #FarewellLuxor #CardiffChanges #IndependentShops
