Reflecting on the experience, Jones admitted, “Looking back, I feel I may have dodged a bullet. I wouldn’t have wanted to be at the centre of a fight over killing off at least one region.” He expressed relief at avoiding the ongoing chaos as the WRU juggles club cuts and financial woes.

Having an impressive coaching resume from Doncaster and Sale Sharks to leading Canada, Jones isn’t ruling out a future with the WRU. He remains optimistic about contributing to Welsh rugby, despite the missed opportunity, and stresses the importance of having three teams for proper development and community engagement.

Jones is currently back in Monmouthshire after a stint helping Japan’s national team. With his wealth of experience, he still dreams of a role that ignites his passion for the sport and aligns with his vision for the future of Welsh rugby.
