Talham Ahmadzai has been sentenced to an extended term for the rape of a woman and a young boy, alongside an attempted rape of a young girl. In court, he audaciously claimed that “women won’t have sex without force” and questioned the UK’s legal standards in comparison to his native Afghanistan. Ahmadzai’s disturbing actions reveal deeply ingrained, harmful perspectives. The 33-year-old, who arrived in the UK as a refugee, has been handed a 21-year-and-seven-month sentence. This includes 19 years and seven months in prison, followed by a two-year licence period. He will need to serve two-thirds of his sentence before the Parole Board considers his release.
