🏉 Big news in Welsh rugby! The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) is gearing up for a monumental meeting at the Principality Stadium on Monday, April 13, at 6pm. This Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) could potentially shake up the rugby scene in Wales like never before.

For the first time ever, member clubs have the option to join online, making participation easier. They’re set to vote on major motions proposed by the Central Glamorgan Rugby Union, including a significant vote of no-confidence in WRU chair Richard Collier-Keywood.
🔹 Motion 1: Calls for the re-election of four Board of Director positions within 14 days.
🔹 Motion 2: Proposes changes to the Articles of Association, aiming for new structures within the WRU.

🔹 Motion 3: Seeks a 50% vote to pass a no-confidence motion, which could lead to Collier-Keywood’s immediate resignation.
The stakes are high, as Motions 1 and 2 need a 75% majority to pass. To ensure the meeting proceeds, at least 95 of the 282 members must vote, with each club having two representatives but only one vote.
Central Glamorgan Rugby Union isn’t stopping there. They’ve requested more changes, including a halt on professional game structure amendments, the creation of a central national academy, and ensuring directors are paid only if they hold top roles like the CEO or PRB chair. They also want the WRU’s leadership to deeply embrace Welsh culture.
In response, the WRU board has outlined its plans to invest £28m into rugby pathways and insists it’s on track with its professional rugby and community game initiatives. They’ve rejected some of these proposals as inadmissible, saying they might imbalance current governance structures.
The WRU board advises against supporting these motions, highlighting they’ve already conducted election processes and reminding members of past efforts to modernise governance that gained overwhelming support.
