Exciting news for Rhondda Cynon Taf! 🎉 Nearly £7 million is set to be invested over the next year on crucial flood management schemes. This includes 41 projects aimed at safeguarding over 1,000 properties across the area, providing much-needed protection from future flooding.

Key projects include improvements on Turberville Road in Porth, benefiting 21 homes with upgrades to culvert inlets and watercourse channels. Penrhys Road in Ystrad will see 45 properties protected through similar enhancements. Over in Ynysybwl, 54 homes in Dan-y-Cribyn are set to benefit from significant culvert network relining, while Cwmbach will have 31 properties secured from flooding risks through debris control and channel repair.
The backing comes from £2.9 million in major funding from the Welsh Government. Additionally, smaller schemes under £200k will receive £1.9 million, and the Resilient Road Fund contributes £1.6 million. Local council funding of £430k rounds up the financial support for these initiatives.

Since the infamous Storm Dennis in 2020, the area has already spent over £23 million on similar successful flood prevention projects, aiding nearly 2,800 properties so far. With storm events becoming more frequent, these new schemes aim to offer even greater security and peace of mind to local residents.
The council is also bolstering its efforts with the installation of high-tech monitoring equipment, including cameras and sensors, to enhance real-time flood prediction and response.

With climate change posing increased flood risks, Rhondda Cynon Taf is taking proactive steps to protect its communities. Stay tuned for updates as these projects move forward! 🌊🏠 #FloodPrevention #RCTSafety #CommunityProtection
