New Regulations to Increase Prices of Vapes and Tobacco Products: Details on Implementation Date and Rule Modifications

Heads up, UK smokers and vapers! Big changes are coming this October that could dent your wallet. From the 1st, the government will introduce a new Vaping Products Duty, meaning all e-liquids, even those without nicotine, will see a price hike. Expect costs to jump significantly: a standard 10ml bottle which currently costs £3.99 could leap to about £6.63. Ouch!

But it’s not just vape users feeling the pinch. Tobacco duty will also rise, aiming to ensure smoking stays the pricier habit. That means an extra £2.20 per 100 cigarettes or per 50g of other tobacco products. Retailers will have some time to sell off older stock, but get ready for a more expensive puff.

And that’s not all. New rules also kick in on 29 October. Vaping devices and nicotine products will no longer be available in vending machines, and handing out free samples will be banned. Plus, the age limit of 18+ will apply to all vapes and nicotine pouches, nicotine-free ones included.

This is all part of an effort to create a “smoke-free generation,” with added focus on protecting kids. Bright, flashy marketing tactics aimed at youngsters are under scrutiny. Future regulations may include plain packaging and stricter controls on flavour descriptions.

Paediatricians and health experts are backing these measures, emphasising the need for strong regulation to shield young people from nicotine addiction. They argue this is a crucial step towards a healthier future for the next generation.
