🌿 Scotland is leading the way in green alternatives with the introduction of “boil-in-the-bag” funerals, also known as hydrolysis or water cremation. This innovative process offers an eco-friendly option to traditional burials and cremations, marking the first new method in the UK for over a century! 🌍

Hydrolysis involves placing the body in a silk or biodegradable shroud within a vessel of heated water and chemicals, speeding up decomposition. This option not only reduces fossil fuel use and carbon emissions but also returns remains to families much like ashes from standard cremation.

Already popular in the US, Canada, and South Africa, and with Europe’s first facility recently launched in Ireland, this sustainable choice echoes public demand for greater options. Public Health Minister Jenni Minto emphasises the importance of respecting personal wishes while offering environmentally conscious alternatives. Scotland’s historic move is set to start this summer, ensuring dignity and respect for loved ones. 💧
