🚨 UK Politics Update 🚨

Prime Minister Keir Starmer has slammed Reform UK for its plan to bring back the two-child benefit cap, calling it “shameful.” During his visit to South Wales, Starmer expressed grave concerns, stating that the policy would plunge hundreds of thousands of children back into poverty.

ICYMI, the two-child benefit cap, originally introduced in 2017 by the Conservatives, limits parents from claiming child tax credit or universal credit for more than two kids. Labour has reversed this policy, but Reform UK’s would-be chancellor, Robert Jenrick, has announced plans to reinstate it if they gain power.

Starmer criticised Reform UK for attempting to punish children, saying it would destroy the life chances of many young people. He emphasised that growing up in poverty makes it harder to achieve one’s potential and economic worth.
Meanwhile, UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in the November 2025 budget that this controversial cap would be fully scrapped by April 2026.
Reform UK’s proposal has triggered a strong reaction from Starmer, who proudly highlighted Labour’s efforts to lift half a million children out of poverty. He warned that Reform’s vision for Britain would result in a return to dire circumstances for families, impacting future generations.
