For those in Cardiff, Caerphilly, Newport, and Rhondda Cynon Taf, keeping doors and windows shut is crucial as health officials advise. 😷 The smoky haze has caused scratchy throats and some serious head-scratching about where the smell’s coming from!

Local couple, Kim and Paul Thomas from Cardiff, had their slumber interrupted as well. Kim, who was out walking her dog in the morning, said she could see a hue of smoke over Caerphilly mountain. 🌄

Meanwhile, Cwmbran resident Oliver Parry was taken aback by how the smell followed him all the way to Cardiff. “It’s a little bit worse in Cwmbran, but I was surprised at how strong it still was here,” he mentioned. Despite the heat, he’s keeping windows closed to fend off the smoky air.

Public health officials remind everyone that smoke can irritate eyes, noses, and throats, leading to coughing and shortness of breath. Their advice? Keep doors and windows shut and your ventilation on recirculation mode if driving. 🚗

Stay safe and indoors if you’re affected. If symptoms persist, contact your GP or NHS 111. 🩺

Unfortunately, the Welsh Government confirmed no helicopters are available to combat the blaze. South Wales Fire and Rescue are working hard with specialist equipment like drones and 4x4s to manage the scene. They’re urging the public to avoid the area while crews work in hot and smoky conditions around the clock.

Let’s keep our brave firefighters in our thoughts as they battle the flames. Stay informed, stay safe! 🙏
