The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has some exciting news for nearly one million pensioners looking to boost their income! Starting April 2026, pensioners are set to receive a boost to their State Pension, following a 4.8% increase. This translates to an extra £575 a year, with a full new State Pension getting a £360 bump. And there’s more good news—financial support measures are being enhanced to mitigate the cost of living.

The Pension Credit Standard Minimum Guarantee is increasing from £227.10 to £238 weekly for individuals and from £346.60 to £363.25 for couples. These boosts aim to protect the income of the most vulnerable pensioners.

But that’s not all! If you receive Pension Credit in England and Wales, you will automatically receive the Cold Weather Payment, while Scottish pensioners will get the annual Winter Heating Payment by mid-February. And, mark your calendars, the Winter Fuel Payment will reach over three-quarters of pensioners, ensuring financial relief for lower and middle-income households.

In an effort to tackle the ongoing cost of living pressures, from April 2026, the government is removing around £150 from household energy bills across Great Britain. Plus, the expansion of the Warm Home Discount will help 6 million low-income households with £150 for energy costs this winter.
The government is also investing £1.5 billion into the Warm Homes Plan to fund home insulation and low-carbon heating. Think this might include you or someone you know? Use the Pension Credit calculator on GOV.UK or call 0800 99 1234 for assistance.
