🏰 Exciting News for Merthyr Tydfil! 🏰
Get ready to see Cyfarthfa Castle transform into a spectacular culture and heritage centre! The first plans are rolling out, and while the overall redevelopment comes with a hefty price tag of over £55m, it’s shaping up to be an absolute game-changer for the area.
The initial phase is set to focus on the oldest mansion section of the castle, costing around £32m. Funding is already underway, with £700,000 pledged from generous private charitable trusts. Plus, there’s a hopeful £10m boost if the National Lottery Heritage Fund gives the green light – fingers crossed for a positive decision in July 2026!
This redevelopment isn’t just a facelift; it aims to create a national cultural hotspot. The project has two big goals: turning Cyfarthfa into a must-visit destination and inspiring the local community through new cultural, leisure, and educational opportunities.
In recent years, Cyfarthfa Castle has already attracted an average of 37,000 visitors annually. This exciting project is set to skyrocket those numbers by enhancing engagement and sparking interest in the rich history and vibrant future of Merthyr Tydfil.
