π₯ Political Clash Alert! π₯

Big words flew in the latest First Minister’s Questions as the Welsh Conservative leader, Darren Millar, took a stand against the Nation of Sanctuary scheme, which helps refugees settle in Wales. Millar wants it scrapped, claiming the funds should bolster public services instead. π·π«

The First Minister hit back, calling Millar’s move an attempt to rival Reform UK and insisting that dropping the programme won’t solve any issues. Between 2019 and 2025, Β£55m was poured into this initiative, with Β£45.4m of that aiding 8,000 Ukrainian refugees. That’s a lot of support for our friends who really need it! π π€
Millar argues that the Welsh Government should stick to its responsibilities and leave immigration support to the UK Government. He insists the additional funding wasn’t necessary as the UK Government already supports Ukrainian refugees under a different scheme. Yet, the First Minister reminds everyone how much these newcomers enrich local communities.
Emotions are high, but the conversation is important. What do you think? Should the focus shift more towards public services, or does supporting refugees remain a crucial part of our moral duty? Letβs hear your thoughts! π¬π
