🏉💸 From millions to a quid: Frank Warren’s wild rugby ride!

Boxing legend, Frank Warren, famous for his work with Tyson Fury, took a bold leap into the rugby world by buying Bedford Blues. Inspired by his sons’ love for the game and the 1995 World Cup, Warren saw potential in the floundering team. He splashed out a staggering £2.5m, believing in the dream of elevating the club.

But the path wasn’t as smooth as he’d hoped. Despite assembling a star-studded squad including South Africa’s Rudolf Straeuli and Scotland’s Scott Murray, Warren faced a tough reality check with the business side of rugby. “I was quite shocked at how it operated,” he admitted, finding the scene drastically different from boxing.

But the drama didn’t end there. Warren’s assets were frozen amid a legal spat with Don King, and he was rocked by the discovery of financial misconduct by a partner at Bedford. With mounting challenges, Warren opted to sell the club for just £1, hoping to secure its future over recouping losses.
“It was quite the conkers on it,” Warren mused, reflecting on the emotional rollercoaster. Even as Bedford eventually faced relegation, Warren still holds a deep affection for the team and the sport. “Rugby is a fabulous game full of great people,” he noted, cherishing his time with the Blues despite the ups and downs.
Now semi-professional, Bedford Blues remains close to Warren’s heart. This journey, though financially daunting, was filled with passion and unforgettable moments.
